Subscription Box Tips #1 – My Best Tips and Discoveries Weekly

This is issue #1 of Subscription Box Tips with me, Gary Redmond. I finally got around to creating a newsletter, and inside you will find my best tips and discoveries I made this week in my Subscription Box business.

You can expect things like:

Marketing ideas, Breakthroughs in BusterBox, books I’m reading, Lesson learned this week and anything else that I feel can help you on your path to Subscription Box Success

1. This week’s marketing tidbitNever give your product away for free, but do add free perks and gifts to your offer to make your product more valuable. We do this with free gifts on signup (only for 6/12 month subs). For a perk we partnered with a Video Vet service for our customers, which is free for as long as they are a subscriber.

2. Breakthrough in BusterBox – This week we discovered the TikTok creator’s marketplace. This is where you can hire TikTok creators to produce videos for your brand. It’s great because while we want to go hard on TikTok, the amount of content you need to produce is huge. We’re excited to outsource this part of the business we struggle with most.

3. Books I’m reading – I’m currently listening to the miracle morning by Hal Elrod. The biggest lesson I learned from it has nothing to do with waking up early at all. The quotes that sticks out is ‘your personal wealth will rarely exceed your personal development’. Which brings me to the lesson I learned…

4. Lesson I learned this week

That quote stuck with me because it is exactly what I have been struggling with in my course and coaching business. I’ve been stagnating and not pushing it forward.

While I thought it was due to lack of time because I am quite busy with BusterBox, it turned out I just hadn’t educated myself on the process of building an organic brand. Social posting, content production and trust building are huge factors in the success of these types of business and I hadn’t been showing up, so my sales had stayed where they were. I needed to also systemise the processes so I could create the content and my VA could take over cross-posting and graphic design.

The bottleneck was caused by the fact I was not expanding my sphere of influence, the bottom of the funnel was fine, get people to join my group and then build value from there, then re-open my course 3/4 times per year. The top of the funnel was the issue, and it led me to ask these 2 questions:

How was I engaging with people that were not in my group? – I wasn’t

And how could I draw more people into my group? – I don’t know

Well it turns out I did know, but I wasn’t doing it

The answer was, consistently showing up and creating content. This includes launching this newsletter you are now reading. But it was also consistent scheduling of content on my Twitter page, cross posted to my Instagram page, then cross posted into my Facebook group and other Facebook groups in my niche.

Since I started this 2 weeks ago, I’ve already seen some great initial results. More followers, email list growing, helped a bunch of people last week with a free webinar I ran on conversion rate optimisation. I have built trust and reciprocity with other founders and this was very satisfying for me.

All of this from that single quote. From a book that other than that was underwhelming…

Oh, so the book itself – While it has some interesting takes I actually think it is a bit padded with ‘fluff’ and has little practical help to assist you in getting up earlier – another of my recent struggles. So since I’m looking for looking for getting up earlier help, my next listen will probably be The 5am Club.

5. Formify Update

For those of you not familiar with my new app Formify, it’s been created with Subscription Box founders in mind, and it helps you to build a signup flow for your website. A signup flow is a super powerful tool to convert more customers, capture more emails and sell upsells to your box.

So feel free to check it out at www.getformify.com – but I will keep you guys updated on the new features we create in my newsletter.
